Introducing your product on the market
In the ecodesign and energy labelling legislation, the following terms are frequently used:
- Placing on the market
“Placing a product on the market” refers to the first time of “making available on the market” of a product. - Making available on the market
A product is made available on the market when supplied for distribution, consumption or its intended resp. foreseeable use on the EU market in a business-related context (i.e. no charities, hobbyists, etc.), whether in return for payment or free of charge. - Putting into service
“Putting into service” of a product refers to its first use for its intended purpose by an end-user.
As various obligations refer to one of these three events, it is important to understand the meaning.
Please be aware that, the three events can take place at the same time or in the order given above, but never reverse.
Finally, if you assemble products you also have legal obligations. Please read more here.
