Understanding the legislation for...

Energy labelling

If you sell heating systems or ventilation units to a building owner through your installation or contracting company, your business acts as a dealer. This means your company has an obligation to provide information to the building owner.

The EU establishes rules for energy labelling and ecodesign of heating systems. This primarily applies to gas and oil boilers, heat pumps, solar heating systems, hot water storage tanks, and water heaters. Similarly, there are regulations for both small and large ventilation units. For both heating systems and ventilation units, only smaller products typically used in single-family and two-family houses are subject to energy labelling rules, while ecodesign covers all products.

Revision of legislation and new requirements for other product groups are on the way

The EU Commission is currently revising the existing legislation and, at the same time, expanding the scope to include entirely new products, such as PV systems. It is therefore important to stay informed, ensuring that your business always complies with the requirements for energy labelling and ecodesign.

Ecodesign and energy labelling regulations

Energy labelling
These regulations highlight the most energy-efficient products on the market and make it possible to compare products on a homogenous basis. Energy labelling requirements are relevant for everyone who imports, distributes, sells, or installs products on the EU market.

Ecodesign (environmentally-friendly design)
These regulations make it impossible for the least energy-efficient products to enter the market. Sets minimum requirements for energy efficiency, functionality and product information. Ecodesign requirements are relevant for suppliers, but not for dealers or installers.
