Introduction to the
Energy labelling regulations
The energy labelling regulations outline specific obligations for dealers, installers, and suppliers. Currently, these regulations apply to 16 product groups.
The framework regulation for energy labelling, (EU) 2017/1369, provides the overarching rules for all product groups.
Additionally, each product group is governed by a specific energy labelling regulation, often referred to as a "product-specific regulation."
The energy labelling regulations cover requirements related to several key elements relevant to dealers, including:
- The energy label: The energy label presents critical environmental information about the product in a standardised graphic format. It must be attached to products to provide purchasing information at the point of sale, enabling consumers to quickly compare products. Typically, the energy label displays 3–6 key indicators, including the product's energy efficiency, energy consumption, and other environmental parameters, represented with icons (e.g., noise emissions).
- The product information sheet (PIS)/the product fiche: This document provides more detailed technical information about the product, supplementing the energy label.
- The European Product Registry for Energy Labels (EPREL): A product database with all energy-related products under regulation with access to energy labels and the product fiche/product information sheet (PIS) for download and printing. Contact data of the suppliers is available and you may report products to the European Commission. Moreover, you can search and filter products by different criteria.
