Ecodesign - overview

Local space heaters

The ecodesign regulation sets minimum requirements for e.g. energy efficiency, resource efficiency concerning spare parts and for information requirements. Non-compliant products must not be placed on the EU market.

The EU Commission introduced ecodesign regulations for local space heaters (in this guideline abbreviated as LSH) in 2015 to support energy and resource efficiency. This legislation was estimated to contribute with approximately 48.650 GWh in annual energy savings, with a related CO2 emission reduction of 6,7 Mt. To update the regulation requirements in line with market and technology development, the legislation was updated in 2024 with new requirements, which applied from 1st of July 2025 (apart from provisions on circumvention, which have been applicable since 9th of May 2024).
