Updated energy label for tumble dryers: Be aware of the new information and the deadlines for replacing of labels
Relevant changes for dealers:
- New repairability class on the energy label:
Latest from 1st of January 2027, every new tumble dryer delivered by your supplier will include an energy label indicating the repairability class from A to E with a dedicated repairability pictogram. - Updated electronic and printed energy labels/PIS:
In parallel, dealers will receive updated electronic energy labels and updated product information sheets (PIS) including the respective repairability class, -index and -sub scores. The repairability sub scores indicate how easily key components of the tumble dryer can be accessed and repaired, considering the number of disassembly steps required, the type of fasteners used, the tools needed for repair, and the availability of repair information. - Suppliers have been allowed to place tumble dryers on the market with the new (physical and electronic) energy label and the updated PIS including information on repairability since 24th of November 2025; it becomes mandatory by 1st of January 2027. Dealers and customers may therefore encounter both label versions during the transition period.
- Transitional handling of old physical energy labels:
Products placed on the market before 1st of January 2027 may continue to be sold with the previous physical energy label version without repairability information, and without any time limitation. - Online display obligations updated:
For online shops and electronic displays it is recommended to show the appropriate updated energy label and product information sheet latest from 1st of January 2027. Nevertheless, packages sent upon an order containing a new energy label can still contain the old energy label without time limit if the specific unit was placed on the market before 1st of January 2027. - There are no changes for pictograms to be used in advertisements.

Changes in the product information sheet (PIS)
In the new PIS, the following additional parameters are introduced:

The repairability class is determined by the repairability index. The score goes from 0 (worst) to 10 (best). Models with scores less than 3 are in class E, with less than 5 in class D, with less than 7 in class C, with up to 9 in class B and with above 9 in class A.
The repairability index consists of the four following parts:
- Disassembly Depth Score: Scoring the number of steps required to remove different parts from the tumble dryer.
- Fasteners Type Score: Indicating whether fasteners are only removable or resupplied (at cost or no cost) or reusable.
- Tools Type Score: Indicates whether the parts are replaceable with basic tools (optimum), are included with the tumble dryer, or require the purchase of special tools (worst case).
- Repair Information Score: Indicating whether the professional repairer has to pay for repair information.
All four scores are weighted averages of scores for various parts of the tumble dryer.
Other changes introduced by the amendment mainly concern technical calculations, documentation, verification procedures and EPREL-related information requirements relevant to suppliers and market surveillance authorities.
