Physical shops

When you receive smartphones and tablets from your importer or manufacturer, each product package will include an energy label that must be used for energy labelling of displayed products.

At the point of sale (in the shop or trade fairs) you shall ensure that:

(a) for each smartphone and slate tablet displayed the energy label provided by suppliers in proximity to the product or hung on it or placed in such a way as to be clearly visible and unequivocally associated to the specific model.

It is also your responsibility, among other things, to:

  • Provide the product information sheet (PIS) if the customer requests it.
  • Display energy labels on products also in the shop’s display windows.
  • Request an energy label or PIS from the supplier if you do not have one or if it is damaged. You can also download it from EPREL – The European Product Registry for Energy Labelling.
  • Ensure that the model identifier on the energy label matches the product.

IMPORTANT
Be aware that if you print the energy label yourself, your printer must be of sufficient quality to reproduce the colours accurately and accordring to the specifications in the energy labelling regulation for smartphones and slate tablets (EU) 2023/1669, Annex III

The size of the energy label

The energy label must be at least 68 mm wide and 136 mm high, unless the packaging is smaller. In that case, suppliers can provide a proportionally smaller label, but it must not be smaller than 47.6 mm wide and 95.2 mm high. If you print the energy label, the size must be at least 68 x 136 mm. Make sure to print the energy label in a size and quality that ensures the QR code can be read by a standard smartphone.
