Coming soon: New ecodesign regulation

In April 2026, member states approved a new ecodesign regulation for water heaters, with the European Parliament vote expected in autumn 2026. If adopted, the regulation is expected to apply from autumn 2028 and will replace the current ecodesign regulation (EU) 814/2013. Key changes include revised efficiency requirements, updated calculation methods, new rules on spare parts and recycling, and coverage of additional technologies and smart functionalities. The revision of the energy labelling regulation is still ongoing, but both regulations are expected to apply simultaneously. Read more here.
