When do the new requirements go into force?

The new ecodesign regulation for tumble dryers (EU) 2023/2533 has entered into force on the 12^th of December 2023. A few elements of the legislation already applied already from this date, but most requirements took effect from the 1^st of July 2025 onwards. Tumble dryers placed on the market after that date have to comply with the new regulation.

However, the following additional tiers respectively deadlines do apply:

Since the 12^th of December 2023

The provisions on circumvention are in force.
Designation “Eco” can be used instead of “standard cotton programme” on the programme selection device or display of the tumble dryer, if you made sure by the 30^th of June 2025 that the booklet for users and technical documentation refers to the standard cotton programme.

Since the 1^st of March 2025

New models (including equivalent models) that comply with the new regulation (EU) 2023/2533 are automatically considered compliant with the requirements of (EU) 932/2012; therefore, no additional compliance check with (EU) 932/2012 is necessary.

Since the 1^st of July 2025

All other provisions of the new regulation will apply until the next revision of the legislation, except:
From the 9^th of May 2027: The maximum allowed power consumption in off mode is decreased from 0,5W to 0,3W.

For all regulations a certain period is specified between the publication of a new regulation and the applicability of the specific regulation requirements. This transition period ensures sufficient lead-time for the market actors (including manufacturers, importers distributors, and dealers) to adjust their products and product information for compliance without disruptive effects on production and sales.  Please find more information here.
