Replacement of serialised parts (applies only to smartphones and tablets)
A ‘serialised part’ has a unique code paired to an individual unit of a device, and whose replacement by a spare part requires the pairing of that spare part to the device by a software code to ensure full functionality.
It is your responsibility to meet the following requirements for the replacement of serialised parts:
- Provide nondiscriminatory access for professional repairers (all spare parts) and end-users (see here, which spare parts have to be available to end-users) to any software tools, firmware, etc. needed to ensure full functionality of those spare parts and the related device .
- Provide, on a free-access website, a description of the procedure for the notification and authorisation of the intended replacement of serialised parts by the owner of the device. This procedure must work remotely.
- Before providing access to the software tools, firmware, etc., you may only require a notification and authorisation of the intended part replacement by the owner of the device or by a professional repairer with the explicit written consent of the owner.
- Provide access to the software tools, firmware, etc., within 3 working days of receiving the request and, where applicable, the notification and authorisation.
- You may restrict access to software tools, firmware, or similar aids to those professional repairers to whom you have previously granted access to repair and maintenance information for spare parts. Please find here the requirements for this procedure.
